About the PI

Dr. Mansoureh Eghbali

Dr. Eghbali is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UCLA. She is also Director of Physician-Scientist Training Program, and Director of the Basic Science Training Environment in the department.


She received her Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from university of New South Wales in Sydney Australia in 1995 and her PhD degree from the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University in 1999.


Dr. Eghbali joined the Department of Anesthesiology at UCLA in 1999 as a postdoctoral fellow and received a postdoctoral fellowship (2002-2004) followed by a Transitional Scientist Development Award (2004-2008) from the American Heart Association. In 2007, she was promoted to Assistant Professor and in 2008 she received her first R01 from NHLBI. Dr. Eghbali was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2013 and to full professor in 2018. Since 2008, she has mentored many postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, and master’s students as well as numerous pre-medical and medical students, residents and fellows.


Her research has been continuously funded by the NIH and/or American Heart Association since 2002 and she currently has three R01s as a PI. Dr. Eghbali has also been very successful as a mentor helping her trainees (postdocs, PhD students, and clinical trainees) to receive many grants from the American Heart Association, American Thoracic Society, Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, American Lung Association, and the NIH.


She has collaborated with many groups at UCLA, nationally and internationally and has published more than 95 papers in leading biomedical journals including Nature, Circulation, Circulation Research, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, EMBO Molecular Medicine, and Anesthesiology. Dr Eghbali has an h- index of 44 with over 6200 citations of her work to-date. Her research has been highlighted by numerous news releases at UCLA and across the globe. She has been recognized nationally and internationally as an expert in the field of heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, sex differences and the role of micro-RNAs in cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases.

Two Postdoctoral Positions

NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr Eghbali. The aim of the research is to elucidate molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular disease including pulmonary hypertension using molecular biology, biochemistry and pathophysiology related to heart dysfunction, pulmonary vascular biology, and animal models of heart and lung disease.


Candidates with a recent PhD degree in the field of cardiovascular disease, or pulmonary hypertension are encouraged to apply. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
